The house of Champagne Eric Maître is a family-owned exploitation since 1860, dedicated to preserving the quality and the traditions of the Champagnes of the Côte des Bar. The precious age-old knowledge of this ancient house has been handed from father to son to preserve the legacy of Aube Champagne. Eric Maître Champagne is the embodiment of the identity and the excellence of the terroir of Celles-sur-Ource, allowing the powerful yet graceful expression of the Pinot Noir cultivated on the Côte des Bar. Thanks to the meticulous, devoted and passionate work of Eric Maître, the House produces authentic and high quality Champagnes, full of fineness and richness. With this exceptional quality, the vineyard is one of the rising stars of the Côtes des Bar: its famous Cuvée Brut Rosé was awarded the silver medal during the Mondial du Rosé, and the vineyard was selected by the Hachette guide of wines.

Celles-sur-Ource : a unique champagne village:

Celles-sur-Ource is historically linked to the Champagne. Several centuries B.C., Celts cultivated vine in the valleys of upper Seine, giving the region an old heritage of vinery. As early as 1156, the Mores Cistercian Abbey, which had their own taverns offering her production to the passing customers, triggered the improvement of the viticulture techniques in the area. With the development of sparkling wines in the beginning of the XVIIIe century (under the name of “salt-cork”), the champagne trade expand, especially thanks to the taste of British for sparkling wines, and in the next few centuries, Celles-sur-Ource became one of the main center of Champagne production. Located in the heart of Aube, on the Côte des Bar, Celles-sur-Ource is a privileged place, blessed by a typical terroir, with a calcareous clay soil, ideal for the freshness and the delicateness of the Champagne. About 400 hectares of vine are grown by the Champagne maker-vintner of the village, which make Celles-sur-Ource one of the thriving center of the Champagne Aubois. Each year, the village produces more than 3 million of bottles sent everywhere in France and in the world.

An exceptional terroir:

The vineyard is in the southernmost part of Champagne, in the heart of the Côte des Bar, on the slopes of the valleys of the Ource and the Seine. The typicality of this terroir is essentially based on the perfect adequacy with the culture of the Pinot Noir, which flourishes and matures very well on these slopes from Jurassic. The chalky soil reflect sunlight, spreading warmth and light and the roots of our vines of more than forty years old plunge deeply in this ground in order to draw enough water to grow juicy and fresh grapes. Our exploitation of eight hectares is composed to 100% of Pinot Noir, giving our Champagne strong yet delicately fresh and aromatic expression, guaranteed by both the high quality of the terroir and the dedication of our work. We cultivated our vines with the greatest care to enable their full potential and to get a great champagne character. This special attention echoes with our will to introduce practices of sustainable agriculture in our vineyard, in order to comply the best this exceptional terroir and this special environment.
